Buddy and Blue: Boo’s Brothers

Boo got the fame, but he was never a solo act. His story only makes sense alongside the two dogs he shared his life with: Buddy, the older brother who raised him, and Blue, the gentle giant who joined the family later. Fans knew the three of them by their hashtag, #b3misfits.

Buddy: the original

Buddy was born on June 21, 2003, making him almost three years older than Boo. He was also a Pomeranian, though you could be forgiven for not realizing it at a glance: while Boo wore his famous short cut, Buddy kept the full, flowing coat that Pomeranians are supposed to have. Side by side they looked like two different breeds, which was half the charm of every photo of them together.

By every account, Buddy was the mellow one. Where Boo brought the chaotic puppy energy, Buddy was calm, patient, and curious, the steady presence who showed Boo the ropes as fame descended on their household. He appeared constantly on Boo’s page and in the books, and longtime fans loved him with a devotion that occasionally rivaled Boo’s own following. He was, as the internet would put it, a very good boy about the whole thing.

Buddy passed away in 2018 at around 15 years old, a genuinely long life for a Pomeranian. His death hit Boo hard: it was after losing Buddy that Boo’s heart problems began, and Boo followed him just a year later. However you feel about the idea of a dog dying of a broken heart, the timeline speaks for itself. They came into the spotlight together and left it barely a year apart. Blue: Sir Blueberry Pie

Blue joined the family on Valentine’s Day 2015, and he broke the pattern immediately: not a Pomeranian but a Golden Retriever, which made the family’s youngest dog also its largest by a factor of about ten.

His full name was Sir Blueberry Pie, which tells you the household had fully embraced its own ridiculousness by then, and fans adored him for it. Photos of tiny Boo and Buddy flanking an increasingly enormous golden puppy were a running delight of the page’s later years. Blue brought a sweetness and goofiness that gave the trio its final, complete form.

After 2019, Blue remained with the family, the keeper of a quieter life out of the spotlight.

The trio

For fans, the #b3misfits era, roughly 2015 through 2018, was the golden age of Boo’s page: three mismatched dogs, one tiny and world-famous, one fluffy and dignified, one huge and blissfully unaware of his own size. The photo gallery has some of the best moments from those years.

If you are new to the story, start with Boo’s bio. But know that everyone who followed along at the time will tell you the same thing: Boo was the star, and Buddy was the soul.
